Thanks to Penny Rose for the design of the Barefoot Rose

When this blog started Sophie and Stephanie wanted it to be virtuality. I figured a bit of reality would creep in now and then and maybe the occasional fictional piece by either Sophie or Stephanie. It turns out that Barefoot Rose has dominated the content of this blog from nearly the start.

This blog is about running, family, living life, getting stronger and fighting the food demons. As I get older and am running less, this seems to be about self exploration through activity. At times, my stories might be a little like catching a big fish.

I love to run. I’ve been running for over ten years. Two years ago, the Vibram Five Finger buzz started getting whispered around my virtual running buddies. Then I started reading about barefoot running. I got a treadmill in October 2009 and decided it would be the prefect time to transition to barefoot running. I bought my first VFFs that following spring thinking I couldn’t go right into barefoot running. I was probably wrong but I had a half marathon to consider. Once the barefoot bug had bitten me, I had to keep going. My first year, I went back and forth between VFFs and barefoot. Spring of 2011, I was determined to go barefoot as much as possible in life and running.

Food Demons
In addition to running, I spend a great deal of time trying to live a healthier life. I’ve got issues so it is mostly a 3 steps forward, five steps back kind of situation. However, I’m going to keep trying until I succeed. I realize this is a long term, life long, project. Plus, when I grow up, I want to be strong.

Life and Family
Finally, there is all the rest of my life as a mother, wife, daughter, sister, leader, worker, and traveller. Sometimes, I just get inspired by everyday life.

I know that reading about running can be boring to some people and others don’t really understand what is so great about running. When I write I try to capture the one or two specific things about a run (or life) that made me glad I went running (was alive) that day. I love using the thesaurus so I try to dress up my writing. Yes, sometimes, I go overboard. This blog is meant for me to have fun.

So, there you have it. Life experiences by Barefoot Rose with few pieces of fiction and reality thrown in by Sophie or Stephanie whenever they get off Facebook!

Do you usually go barefoot in public?

What does running barefoot do to the soles of your feet?

  3. I don’t go barefoot in the public public but I do walk around my neighborhood. I am about 99% minimalist shoes when I have to wear them.

  4. My soles feel kind of like a dog’s pad but softer? It’s hard to describe.

  5. Hi there! Just stumbled across your blog…I’ve been considering trying barefoot running but haven’t taken the “leap” yet. Looking forward to reading more!

  6. I call my bare feet hoofs lol. They are nearly but I hate shoes! I’ve been thinking about vffs and have never heard a word against them! This summer I’m taking the plunge!
