Mighty Mighty

I looked in a full length mirror today…

So, here’s today’s workout T-shirt 


I’m in Malvern, PA.  I was walking on the treadmill when a couple of good tunes came across the earbuds. 2.5 miles for the day.  Barefoot no less (literally not possible to be less)  Now, I’m hanging out in my hotel room having a little dance party. 

Soon, I’ll switch over to more mellow music and work on my mobility work.

These hips will be constant work but I am better off than I was.  After all, I drove 3 hours yesterday, left the house at 4:30 am to catch a 7 am flight to Philly. I spent all day sitting on ill fitting chairs in meetings. Considering my past, my inability to get through a day like that without groaning, I am so much better off now.

Even though I’m going to dance to it, my oneday needs to be today.

Giving Up

I joined a gym. I’m losing inches. I’m getting stronger. I’m eating chocolate. I’m wearing shoes.

It’s been several weeks since I started working out at the gym again. The guard at the door verbally greets me with half open eye lids. He even confided, one day, it was tough to get up at 4 am to come to work. I smiled in solidarity. I’m practically a regular.

Which is why I felt it was the right time to remove my shoes.

I’m giving up my shoes but I don’t think I’m giving up chocolate.

I’m not sure how many people think it is crazy but there have been enough people over the years commenting on my preference for bare feet that it’s more than just in my head. Add the public shower barefoot fungus phobia to the intense germ-a-phobia that exists in the gym as evidenced by the plethora of anti-bacterial gels on every exercise machine. Let’s just say, I gave up my shoes but I didn’t trumpet the virtues of barefootedness. (besides on here, of course)

PSA – Foot fungus develops in warm moist areas that don’t dry out. No shoes = dry feet = poor environment for fungus growth

We’ll see if I continue to get away with it or if I get asked to put the shoes back on. If that happens, I’m giving up the gym.

I’m still won’t be giving up chocolate though.

Cliché Update

Does anyone remember their New Year’s Resolutions? I have a vague recollection that my helicopter was under enemy fire.

Wait. Sorry, that’s not my story.

I’m more likely to forget.

Q. Did there come a time when you and Admiral Poindexter met with the other New Years Resolution officials or members – as well as members of Congress to try to relate to them what your resolutions were?

A. I don’t recall having anything to do with the Congress in that sense.

That’s why I blogged it. Official, written evidence of my cliched attempt to grow up in 2015. Did I stay the course?

RESOLUTIONS
1. Gain a better understanding of which foods negatively impact how I feel and irritate my digestive system
Yes, if I can count eating fast food 2-3 times a week as trial and error?

2. Build functional strength
I successfully lifted the rear end of the snowmobile. And, I can do two full push-ups in a row.

3. Reduce unnecessary spending
I’m in the middle of a kitchen remodel, planning a big summer vacation then I let my husband go buy a snowmobile..

4. Spend more time on creative projects
Kitchen remodel, string art heart, three unfinished scarves

5. Get on with life
I’m in the middle of a kitchen remodel. Who has time to get on with life??

I remembered 4 out of 5. I’ve actively worked on 2 out of 5.

My status on being cliché – 80%.

2015

It seems so cliché to make resolutions these days. Yet, I just can’t stop myself.

I’m in need of a makeover, January 1st (actually 5th) (now the 8th), seems like the best time to do it. I might as well jump on the self-improvement train and make a go of it.

Here are a few things I’d like to accomplish in 2015:
1. Gain a better understanding of which foods negatively impact how I feel and irritate my digestive system

2. Build functional strength

3. Reduce unnecessary spending

4. Spend more time on creative projects

5. Get on with life

A Fly In The Ointment

I’m a four seasons girl. When the weather is beautiful, I want to be outside. To me, each season has it’s beauty. Today was no exception. It was warm but not hot, breezy but not windy and plenty of sun. It’s a day that makes you feel like it has healing powers.

What’s a girl to do but go walking, barefoot walking.

Yes, I went barefoot walking and I didn’t step in any dog poop. Stepping in dog poop is a common misconception of going barefoot.

I was, however, given plenty of opportunity to step in it. I’d really like to thank all those dog owners for refusing to pick up their dog’s poo so that fifty thousand flies could buzz around me as I went by.

It kinda put a fly in the ointment.

Ten In A Row?

Ten in a row? Ah, no.

I didn’t even make it ten days in a row, not even seven or even five. Three days (3!) in a row, I conscientiously exercised for a total of sixty minutes a day. I started losing motivation when I acknowledged that although loading severely overgrown shrubbery into the dump trailer felt like sixty minutes of grueling work, it was really only fifteen minutes. With excuses and justifications piling up, I sit here on the seventh day of the sixty day challenge without a single minute of a MovNat workout to claim as my own.

That seems fairly inadequate.

Hmm.

If I am going to make a change to reverse the dysfunctional aging, I can’t give up just because it wasn’t ten consecutive days. My progress wasn’t hindered because I didn’t witness improvements, I enabled other things to take priority. I can’t say I’m surprised by how poorly I implemented the plan. I had predicted it from the start.

If I can’t immediately turn on the drive to workout everyday, I’ll have veer toward bettering last week’s dismal performance. This week’s challenge will be to make my workout a priority a minimum of 4 days this week.

I might also need to include a more positive attitude and/or stop eating lunch at Steak and Shake….

*I did not want to post this today, but I had declared that I would publish all my failures for the public to see. At least, I stuck to one part of the plan.

If A Tree Falls In The Family Room, Will It Wake Everyone Up?

The other night, an hour after I went to bed, I was still awake. Perhaps it was the nagging guilt of publicly consenting to 60/60 and only having 40 minutes for day 1 that kept me from falling asleep? Or, perhaps, I was super excited about exercising for 60 days straight?

Yeah, guilt is mighty powerful.

I figured a session of relaxation yoga would help me fall asleep after fulfilling my 60 minute requirement. However, I began to doubt the wisdom of performing yoga at 11 pm at night when I lost my balance while doing a tree pose.

Ok, I was attempting a tree pose because had I been successfully “doing” it, I wouldn’t have nearly landed in the TV.

Conclusion, a tree pose falling in the family room will not wake up everyone else if you can tuck and roll.
